Care Legislators of the Year Announced

SPRINGFIELD,
IL (October 3, 2006) – The Long-Term Care Legislators
of the Year have been announced by the Illinois Health
Care Association (IHCA), the Illinois Council on Long
Term Care (ICLTC) and Life Services Network of Illinois
(LSN). For the first time, the awards are being
presented jointly by the three associations, which
formed a groundbreaking coalition that represents more
than 60,000 healthcare professionals, therapists and
caregivers serving 80,000 residents in Illinois.
The legislators honored this year
are:
- Sen.
Pamela Althoff (R-Crystal Lake);
- Sen.
James F. Clayborne, Jr. (D-Belleville);
- Sen.
Dale Righter (R-Mattoon);
- Sen.
Dan Rutherford (R-Pontiac);
- Sen.
Ira Silverstein (D-Chicago);
- Sen.
Donne Trotter (D-Chicago);
- Rep.
Patti Bellock (R-Hinsdale);
- Rep.
Dan Brady (R-Bloomington);
- Rep.
John Bradley (D-Marion);
- Rep.
William Delgado (D-Chicago);
- Rep.
Tom Holbrook (D-Belleville);
- Rep.
Brandon Phelps (D-Norris City);
- Rep.
Kathleen Ryg (D-Vernon Hills);
- Rep.
Ed Washington (D-Waukegan);
- Rep.
Dan Reitz (D-Steeleville);
- Rep.
Jack Franks (D-Woodstock);
- Rep.
Deborah Graham (D-Chicago);
- Rep.
Aaron Schock (R-Peoria Heights) and
- Rep.
Lou Lang (D-Skokie).
Also named to the 2006 IHCA Hall of
Fame are Senators Righter and Trotter and Rep. Holbrook.
Legislators who have received the annual award from IHCA
at least three times are inducted into the Hall of Fame.
The winners were chosen for their commitment to
quality care for Illinois seniors and persons with
disabilities. They also supported measures to:

fund the new Medicaid reimbursement system for
nursing homes;
·
modernize existing facilities into more
person-friendly environments;
·
convert and utilize existing facility resources to
provide more home-based and community services for the
elderly;
·
attract and retain quality bedside nurses and
caregivers;
·
promote innovative practices in the care of the
elderly; and
·
provide an efficient, coordinated spectrum of senior
services.
“The long-term care community in Illinois has
benefited greatly from the outstanding dedication and
hard work of these public officials,” said David
Voepel, executive director of IHCA. “These individuals
have shown they are a true friend to our profession.”
Terry Sullivan, executive director of ICLTC, said,
“Our long-term care coalition and the facilities we
represent greatly appreciate these legislators for being
advocates for long-term care.” Dennis Bozzi, President
of LSN, added, “We look forward to continuing to work
with them on behalf of our profession.”
